Department for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy

Psychosomatics - Body and soul: the whole individual is the centre of attention in the Department for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Fliedner Krankenhaus. Here we treat patients whose spiritual afflictions are accompanied by physical symptoms, who suffer from physical complaints for which there is no (sufficient) organic explanation or those gravely ill in body whom we help to master their life's tasks. Our therapy spectrum comprises:

• Somatoforme disorders
  (pain disorders, functional gastrointestinal complaints, cardiovascular difficulties, etc.)
• Eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, psychogenic overweight)
• Anxiety disorders (phobias, generalised anxiety, cardiac-centered phobia, etc.)
  
• Depression disorders
  
• Personality disorders
  
• Post-traumatic disorders

We offer inpatient or day clinic psychosomatic/psychotherapeutic hospital care with a focus on depth psychology. This means that we assume that the problems which bring people to therapy today have a life history connection that must be tracked down as the path leading towards healing.
Additionally, we integrate behavioral therapeutic und systemic elements in our therapy offerings that consists of conversation group and individual therapy, art and movement therapy as well as support of the therapeutic community according to the primary care system.
We put great value on close cooperation and networking with private medical practices and psychological colleagues, with the surrounding hospitals as well as information centres, since these are often the first contact for our patients, and it also should remain this way after treatment here.

Access to treatment is provided in an uncomplicated way with a non-binding ambulant consultation so that we get to know each other personally, and this session serves to arrange for admission. The duration of therapy is a maximum of twelve weeks (in exceptional cases also longer) and is jointly determined with the patients in regular interim balance sheet discussions. As a rule, an admission can be promptly offered.
